It took three sleepless weeks and 64 pages but I have finished the FINAL (and first, and only) draft of my thesis!
That’s right, I don’t do rough drafts! And yes, I wrote an entire thesis in 21 days!
It’s 5 am, I can hear birds chirping, and I’m absolutely delirious from sleep deprivation, but I’m so happy THE END IS NEAR
BRING ON T.G.I.S. WEEKEND, cause I am thesis-stress-free!
This is where Tumblr comes in. It’s the future of social networking if your image of the future features intelligent discourse. I love reading other Tumblr users replies, because they’re thoughtful by virtue of the fact that if they’re not, they’ll bring the intellectual property value of their own blog down, and that’s a commodity on Tumblr.
Will everyone flock to Tumblr now? Will Oprah get one and start yelling in all CAPS and will all the hipsters who post pictures of bacon leave Tumblr for Posterous? Don’t leave, hipsters.
Archive of language courses developed by the U.S. government.
So many languages…so little time.
Tumblr no longer blocked in China. I think this means the government realized that over-emotional hipsters posting photos of bacon-laced clothing no longer pose a challenge to the regime. Hopefully for me, this will mean more regular posting.
Awesome.
Also, never under-estimate the power of bacon.
A. Leave home. Go as far away as possible from what you know. You’ve got to be tested, and you’ve got to test yourself. Go and find out who you are and what you can deal with and put yourself in some positions that will be distinctly uncomfortable. Forcing yourself out of your comfort zone is a great learning in life.” —Andrew Cosslett, chief executive of InterContinental Hotels Group, in an interview with the NYTimes
3 AM. I have now finished the lit review and introduction of my thesis.
I now have 13 pages (single spaced!) on the history of Twitter, the tensions in Xinjiang, and a long, probably too long, hope-it-doesn’t-get-cut-because-then-I-have-no-lit-review long, section on why and how censorship works in China.
Yay!
But wait Edna, isn’t your entire thesis supposed to be finished, ready to turn in and be defended in 11 days?
Boo.
My thesis is eating my soul.
This is not an exaggeration, I’ve developed heartburn and a mild case of hives due to stress.
So sorry I’ve neglected, you, Tumblr. You should see the state of my email inbox.
I suppose the big news of the last week is that I won this Trazzler writing contest and will soon have, among other prizes, $700 to spend in a paid-for trip to San Francisco.
Six weeks until graduation.
Edit: Oh, I also watched all three seasons of Arrested Development this week. How did I not get into that show earlier?!
